Nobel Peace Prize Rigoberta Menchu took Stockton by a storm. Between the evening of Tuesday, October 21, and noon, Wednesday 22, hundreds of individuals filled rooms, halls and theaters at the University of the Pacific and San Joaquin Delta College to hear what the controversial Mayan activist had to say.

La visita de Rigoberta Menchú, Premio Nobel
de la Paz, causó un gran impacto en Stockton.
Entre la noche del martes 21 de octubre y el mediodía del miércoles 22,
cientos de personas en la Universidad del Pacífico y en el San Joaquín Delta
College llenaron aulas, salones y teatros para escuchar lo que la
controversial activista maya tenía que decir.
Después de más de cuarenta y cuatro años, Ramón Ortiz, de 92
años de edad, podría recuperar el dinero por el cual trabajó y que
perdió a la burocracia mexicana.
Durante el Programa Bracero de 1942-1964, millones de trabajadores mexicanos
fueron reclutados e importados a los Estados Unidos para aliviar la
debilitada fuerza laboral en la agricultura, las vías férreas y otras
industrias.

Mexican bureaucracy.
During the 1942-1964 Bracero Program, millions of Mexican workers were
recruited and imported to the United States to alleviate the deflated
workforce in agriculture, railroads and other industries.

San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties’ high foreclosure
ratios have bred mortgage-scam galore, according to a recent report from the
Justice Department.
The scams are loan mortgage modifications offered to the public for
outstanding fees for work that can be done for free at many nonprofit
organizations, if any work is done at all.

The pacifist would give me no peace
If Rigoberta Menchu, the famous and controversial 1992 Nobel Peace Prize
winner, impressed many in her two-day Stockton visit, no one could have been
more impressed than I. As a matter of fact, I believe that the feeling was
mutual, as Ms. Menchu was so impressed by ME that she arranged with police
for my arrest were I to approach her!
My reasons for her action are purely speculative, but here they are for you
to judge.
La pacifista me hizo la guerra
Si Rigoberta Menchú, la famosa y controversial Premio Nobel de la Paz 1992, impresionó a alguno en sus dos días de visita a Stockton, nadie quedó más impresionado que yo mismo. Al decir verdad, creo que el sentimiento era mutuo, porque la Srta. Menchú quedó TAN impresionada conmigo ¡que dio instrucciones a la policía que me arrestaran si se me ocurría acercarme a ella!
